 Dear Parents:

Happy New Year and welcome back to the continuation of what has started as an excellent school year! It is hard to believe that we have completed the first semester of the 2019 – 2020 school year. I hope you and your families enjoyed your time together during winter break. School has resumed with a smooth start and our faculty and staff have been working diligently to educate the students. As we begin the New Year and start of the second semester, our staff has conducted mid-year NWEA MAP and other assessments. The data from these assessments will help guide our instruction moving forward. Teachers will continue to work collaboratively to develop lessons appropriate for each student’s needs, as well as, monitor our progress with our students throughout the year. Students who need additional support will have opportunities within the school day to work on specific skills.

In an effort to ensure that our faculty and staff have the instructional time needed to address the needs of our students, we ask that you please adhere to the following:

*Refrain from checking your child out during instruction. Constant interruptions from instruction, not only decreases your child’s opportunities for instruction, but also disrupts other students’ instruction by interrupting the class.

*Have students here and on time. Students must receive the instruction, to master it! School starts promptly at 8:00 and ends at 2:30. If you are late dropping your child off, a parent / guardian must sign them in to receive a tardy slip to attend class. If you are late picking them up (after 2:50) you must come in and sign them out. Our teachers have planning and workshops scheduled for afterschool so that they can better assist your child.

* If your child is in our small group tutoring classes in the morning, they must be here at 7:15 Monday - Friday. We only have a limited amount of time (7:15 – 7:45) to work with students, so please don’t miss the opportunity to receive this FREE tutoring! Tutoring is for our 2nd and 3rd grade students and we only have a limited amount of students that we can accept. If your child constantly misses or arrives late, they will be replaced with another student who can be present to receive the benefits of tutoring.

*If you need to discuss something with a teacher, please send a note or call the office to request a conference (843-774-1219). It is imperative that our teachers deliver uninterrupted instruction daily to our students.

*Please check your child’s folder daily. Our folders are purchased for each student in an effort to help with communication with parents and to assist your child in maintaining their work. Teachers use the folders to send parents notes or important information about school events and your child. If checked daily, you will be able to stay informed about your child’s progress. You may also use the folders to send the teacher notes.

*Please ensure that your child is prepared for school daily. Students need to come to school with their folders, pencils, paper, and completed assignments (homework), etc.

*We are committed to educating your child(ren) and our desire is to work as a team with family and community members to ensure that they receive every opportunity possible while here at Stewart Heights Elementary! To do this we ask that you please keep these requests in mind to help us!

Thank you in advance for your support!
