South Carolina Book Award Program

Students are encouraged to read. Each student who reads three or more books throughout the year can vote for their favorite in early February and will receive an award at the annual awards ceremony in May.  Students in grades 9th-12th are encouraged to read from the Young Adult list, while students in grades 6-8 may find the Junior Book Award titles more enjoyable.

Reading Promotions

Reading is important for students and their achievements.  Students have many options for entertainment, but it is equally important that they spend time reading for pleasure. Reading is free, fun, and can be done anywhere. Reading promotes better test scores and individual success in the work force. In addition, it is a great chance to learn the possibilities that exist inside the library and within the covers of books.
