SCDE Memo for Parents (English)

SCDE Memo for Parent (Spanish)

Dear Parent,

As the year flies by, I ask that you continue to pay close attention to your student’s academics.  You can keep track of your child’s academic progress by logging on to the Parent Portal and viewing your child’s grades. It is also important that you continue to communicate with your child’s teacher throughout the remainder of the school year. Ongoing communication between teachers and parents is necessary to insure a child’s success in school.

During May, Dillon Middle School students will take the state assessments. Sixth through eighth grade students will take the SC READY state assessment in ELA and math. Our sixth-grade students will take the SCPASS state assessment in science.

Encourage your child to give his/her personal best on the tests.  Students should be at school daily and on time.  Research has shown that students score better when they take the test with their peers.  Help us help your child be as successful as his/her potential. Click this link for our State Testing Schedule for Parents.

Please continue to be mindful that our students’ academic day continues until dismissal each afternoon and it is very important that students are not dismissed early unless an unavoidable appointment or emergency is involved as valuable instruction from the teacher can be missed in addition to required assignments.  If your child must be absent, please send a written note to school when they return explaining their absence. Without this documentation, the absence cannot be excused.

I look forward to a strong end to a great school year. While there is still much to accomplish, I am confident DMS will continue to thrive, knowing that the success of our students would not be possible without the dedication and care of a supportive staff and community.

Thank you for being committed to excellence!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or administration directly at 843-774-1212. Thank you for your support!

Rodney Cook

Florence Morning News Chick-Fil-A Teacher of the Month Award

Dillon Middle School’s chorus teacher, Mr. Joshua Fleetwood, has been named April’s recipient of the Florence Morning News Chick-Fil-A Teacher of the Month award.  The purpose of this award is to recognize the impact community educators have on the lives of their students during these challenging times, and to thank these educators for their service.  Mr. Fleetwood was among a large group of teachers from across the Pee Dee area nominated for this award in April.  Matt Tranquill and Janae Williams, of the Florence Morning News, recently came to Dillon Middle School and presented a plaque and Visa and Chick-Fil-A gift cards in excess of $250 to Mr. Fleetwood.
